Welcome to our EagleEye photo explorer. Please feel free to browse and fly around our inter-linked photo database. This database has been realised through the kind donation/sharing of geo-referenced photos by the general public on sites like Flickr and Panoramio and the Marmota research project, funded by FBK, which auto-aligns photos with reality.
"What is the Marmota project?". Marmota is a prototype image alignment program that has been created in our TeV lab in FBK over the past few years. Essentially, it takes a photo and tries to match visible terrain inside the image with similar features inside a generated synthetic model of the real World. Once alignment is achieved what you have is a true 3D photo and its true content can be revealed. More details and publications relating to the system's workings can be found on our main webpage.
"What are geo-referenced photos, and can I add my own to your database?" Basically, a geo-referenced photos is one where we know exactly where on the planet it was taken. Whether this data comes from a GPS device or by simply dropping your images into GoogleEarth it matters not. At the moment the Marmota tool is a prototype and exists only in our lab. However, your are more than welcome to submit your own images to us via email and we will use Marmota to enable you to share them with others in this fun and interactive way.
"So, what will I find in your EagleEye photo explorer?". Inside the explorer you will come across an ever expanding assortment of Marmota-aligned images that are auto-annotated and explorable. Such features as mountain peak names, villages, lakes, buildings, etc, are displayed as well as links to other visible photos from inside the database. In this way it is possible to jump/fly from one place to another through the photos. Give it a go...
"I want to be involved too? How can I help?". No worries. Simply send us an email and we'll see how we can collaborate.
"How do I get started?". Easy, just click here and you'll work it out.
Happy soaring.

One of the goals of the Visual Environmental Monitoring project (codename Marmota) is to furnish visitors to mountainous regions with a mobile tool which can offer them a real-time detailed knowledge of their surroundings. In order to do this we are trying to understand what is being seen through the lens of a camera. More details about this project can be found here.
The TeV team at Fondazione Bruno Kessler - Center of Information Technology - is actively involved in cutting edge research in the field of Computer Vision, Image Analysis and visual Pattern Recognition. We are actively designing and developing innovative techniques in the areas of semantic image labelling and dynamic scene understanding specifically devoted to applicative topics which concern object detection and recognition, indexing and retrieval by content, multiple target tracking, gesture recognition and traffic monitoring.
