Luna Venere e Giove su Palermo

Luna Venere e Giove su Palermo

Just for fun I thought that I’d label the mountains behind Palermo in Carlo Columba’s photo of the amazing conjunction last week of the Moon, Jupiter and Venus. Wow!! Just a shame it was cloudy in Trento that day :( You can find the original photo here. It is published on Flickr under a CC licence. We redistribute this derived work under the same license.

Warning: the apparent diameter of the Moon in this photo is 5.6 degrees instead of the more realistic 0.5 (more information here and here). It is therefore evident that this picture is the aesthetically pleasant result of the composition of multiple photos, without any pretense of being astonomically realistic.

  1. Aestetically plesant? Certainly not to me. Apply the same stretching effort and you bring Monte Fasce (nearby Genoa: 832m) to challenge Mt. Everest. By the way: have a look at very nice pictures from Monte Fasce at http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Fasce.
