Grignone from Bergamo Airport
Today’s image focuses on a local controversy concerning the authenticity of a photo showing the city of Bergamo, Italy, supposedly superimposed over a montaneous backdrop. Original source (Feb. 2012):(http://blog.panorama.it/italia/2012/02/07/bergamo-e-la-montagna-tarocca/). The photograph was originally used in a commercial for the launch of the newspaper “Corriere della Sera di Bergamo” showing Città Alta (part of the city of Bergamo) from an unusual point of view. As was explained in http://bergamo.corriere.it/bergamo/notizie/opinioni/12_febbraio_8/corriere-panorama-1903203432749.shtml, the photo was taken from the control tower of Orio al Serio, airport close to Bergamo. People claimed that the photo was tampered with, due to the apparent vicinity of the iconic mountain in the background (Mount Grignone), with respect to the city. But as you can see from the above Marmota aligned image, the mountain is indeed Grignone and lies 40km away (a synthetic rendering of the photo can also be seem below for further proof).
The controversy arose because this mountain is traditionally featured in publicity material from Lake Como, and usually shows the city of Lecco rather than Bergamo.
